Fitness And Health Questions & Answers

• How did you start your fitness journey?

After I got my driers license my senior year of high school, I started to have freedom in which foods I was eating and I felt like I could drive until the end of time. It wasn't until after my first semester of college I realized I was getting winded from just walking up the stairs. I joined Davis Swim and Fitness as a member, realizing how much I do love fitness. This is also when I have created a new lifestyle as a strict vegan, loving fruits and vegetables more than ever before! A year later, I started to work there and after a few short months started training at DSF's inside location, Yolo CrossFit. January of 2018 is when I got really serious about my training, which is when I entered in the 2018 CrossFit Open and competed in my first competition April 2018. This is where I got hooked and I am currently on my journey in becoming a CrossFit coach!

• Why do you train?

Becoming stronger is a given, but I love maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I want to be that person in their 70s still training like a boss and recovering from sicknesses rather quickly. I love being able to grow and do more. and plus I have a great fitness community around me here at YCF.

• What do you hope to accomplish with your training/fitness?

I want to do ALL the moves, start doing WODs RX'd, and become a great coach that can help lead people to become stronger and healthier in their CrossFit journey.

• What do you think a healthy lifestyle has added to your life?

I have become a new person! Honestly. where I have come from 2 1/2 years ago stuns me. I would have never thought back then as a newly 18 year old I would be lifting heavy shit and eating like a bunny, but look here I am! Super happy and very adventurous, looking forward in what I can do in the future!

• Advice to beginners?

Stick to a schedule, but also don't make too many changes at once. You don't have to become vegan, but I slowly started to change my habits little by little, leaving behind the stuff I knew I didn't need anymore that would help me become healthier in the long run. Realistic expectations, but keep pushing yourself to become better each day. Say no to that cookie, add just a little bit of extra weight on your bar, drink more water. You got this!

• Who are your role models and why?

All of my coaches, but especially Coach Bryan at YCF. He has already pushed me to become a person I never thought I would be, and he makes me really want to learn about the CrossFit and fitness world. I am always inspired and can't wait to learn more from him!

• What is your favourite cheat meal?

Literally anything with fried tofu. Mostly thai, but fried tofu with peanut sauce just gets me going!

• What keeps you motivated?

Becoming a mom. I want to be strong and fit with my future children and not feel dragged down because I didn't want to exercise enough. I also want my futrue children to eat well and appreciate the love for vegetables rather than processed meals that are eaten by most children :( . I want to lead by example and get my future children and other children I am teaching to get inspired.

• How much time do you spend training per day?

60 minutes - 2 hours

• What are your 3 favourite exercises and why?

Burpees, because I have gotten so good at them and I used to HATE them a year ago!
Back squats, they are so satisfying!
Pull-ups. They are still a work in progress but its so much fun to work towards them

• What are your 3 least favourite exercises and why?

snatches. Oh god
Thrusters. OH GOD
Rope climbs. I just cant do them yet!

• What do you find to be most challenging about committing to workouts or a nutrition regime?

Sometimes going out with friends. If I want to maintain my vegan diet and ALSO cut out refined and processed carbs, VERY difficult not to get something super sugary or full of bread.

• How many hours do you sleep each night?

5-8 hours. I love my 8 hours but sometimes I go to bed too late on an early morning shift :/

• Are there any unique training tips you use that you would like to share with us?

Not any yet LOL

• What does your typical meal plan look like?

Lots of salads, a main dish with roasted veggies, sometimes with rice, lots of fruit, Kombutcha, coffee, and more salads.

• Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Graduated with at least one degree, still working out and now coaching, and feeling really confident with all of my moves.

• What are the 3 words that best describe you?

empathetic, driven, creative.

• How do you manage the balance in your life and find time for everything?

I put health as #1, thats how i get so motivated and excited about workouts and healthy eating. It's awesome!

• Do you have a quote that you live by?

Life is about growing and improving and getting better.

• How important is sleep during your contest prep? How many hours should athletes be getting every night?

6-8 hours at least.
